Enjoyable Sunday, bad pics

Today I played with the worship team for the first time in Monterrey. Most everyone enjoyed it, the band sorely needed a keyboard player. A friend made some recordings, but I haven’t gotten them yet. I had a friend take some pictures of the band for me, but they came out too grainy. In two of them I look like an evil dwarf or a cross between a chipmunk and a demon of the underworld. I’ll spare you the sight of them

A guitar teacher, a friend of the family, came to the service and offered me a part time job teaching children piano. The opportunity sounds great, but of course, a music teacher doesn’t make very much. I’d barely be able to scrape a living. Still, there are trade-offs, like for instance, having a flexible schedule. I’ll definitely consider it, but still look for a tech job.

Turns out this Monday is a national holiday (5 de Mayo ring any bells). So probably I’ll travel with a few friends to a cave system called Grutas de García. Taking pictures there is difficult because of low lighting, but I hope to be able to post some. I hope I can avoid the dwarf chipmunk look.

ok, I am so glad that I wasn’t drinking somthing when I read this blog post. Otherwise I would have spit it all over my laptop when I got to the part where you said you look like a cross between the evil dwarf or a cross between a chipmunk & demon of the underworld.

Tan guapo que sos, there is no way you would look like that :D

Would you be able to teach children piano to supplement a job that you found? I know you said it was part time, so would you be able to work it around a regualr job?

I hope you had a great weekend, adn happy 5th :)

5 de mayo is the battle of puebla in 1862 where the mexicans fought against France under Napoleon III and beat them in the process….

in the States people think its the mexican independence….

Hi there! I love hearing about Mexico. I’ve been catching up and see that a couple of articles ago you said that you wished someone would pay you to be a musician and in this one you said that someone offered to pay you to be a musician (well, sort of — teacher). ;-)

Don’t you have to get a work permit in Mexico? Just wondering about that. Don’t want you to get in trouble.

We just saw the movie Border Town this weekend. Don’t watch it.

There is a young guy who hosts a television show (channel 10) that comes on before or after the news. Have you ever seen it? Sorry, I can’t remember his name but anyway, he looks like you! Definitely cute but with longer hair.

You’re absolutely right, gringa. My plan is to get interviews first, and ask whichever company is interested in hiring me to help me out with my legal status. That narrows my chances a bit, not all companies are that open toward Hondurans.

I’d love to be a full time music teacher, but the guy who talked to me told me that the pay wasn’t very good. Even so, I’m not ruling it out.

Hmm, the only guy on channel 10 I know is Reynaldo Rosales, but I doubt he would be glad you think I look like him… :)

    but thanks!

  • La Gringa

No, that isn’t him. I’ll try to see if I can catch his show and get his name.

You just got to Mexico and you already have stuff happening… that’s good.

    How’s the chow?

    kman

The chow here’s excellent, except the refried beans. Nothing beats good Honduran frijolitos.
