Keyboard 0, Coffee 1

I killed my keyboard at work with…horror of horrors, coffee! This being monday, I usually start the day grumpy, groggy, grumbly and sub-human. I usually find a taxi quite close to my apartment, and ride to the nearest metro station, about 2 miles away.

Today however, I walked for about 10 minutes before I was able to get a cab. I only had 35 minutes to get to work, and panic set in. I didn’t want to pay direct taxi, as my job is 11 miles away, and many of the busiest rush hour nightmares are in the way.

I ended up paying the taxi, 96 pesos (192 Lps). After hypnotizing myself for 40 minutes in order not to sulk, I arrived. But, as I was drinking my first cup of coffee, I had a narcoleptic episode. One second I was looking at the computer screen, and the next I was looking at a soggy keyboard. I jumped back, aghast, and avoided getting soaked and stained. Thankfully my papers avoided the mess. But my keyboard was drenched in coffee.

I left it upside-down to drain the liquid, and rushed to the bathroom, only to find no paper towels or even toilet paper. After returning to disconnect it, I did find my supervisor, who was surprised to see me holding a wet keyboard.

The cleaning lady lent me a cloth, which was soon completely brown and dripping. I borrowed a canister of compressed air to clean the spaces between the keys. But when I connected the keyboard back into the computer and restarted it, I couldn’t get in: the delete key had gone berserk.

I was forced to remove each key and clean the whole thing from the inside. After putting the whole thing back together I had to concede defeat. The keyboard was dead.

I borrowed a keyboard from a guy who is usually away. I went keyboard hunting during lunch break, only to find the computer hardware store closed! I wished I hadn’t ever gotten out of bed today.

Mondays should be abolished, and we should get two Saturdays instead.
