US State Department Rejects Honduran Delegation

The spokesman of the US State Department, Ian Kelly, said he was unaware of any delegation from the government of Honduras. He added that if such a delegation were to request a meeting, they would reject it, because it comes from a government the US does not recognize. They have said they will surely meet with deposed president Manuel Zelaya, though.

Once your blood stops boiling, you might want to check out this BBC video of the violence at Toncontín airport yesterday.

The military have said that the ballistic report concluded that the bullet that killed Isis Murillo was “not of military caliber.” The report also stated that the trajectory of the bullet does not match the direction of fire of the military.

Ortez: The Police Did Not Shoot

Honduran Chancellor, Enrique Ortez Colindres says the shot that killed Isis Obeth Murillo was fired from the crowd of protesters, not from the Honduran police, according to El Universal, Venezuela. If you look at the picture above (see larger version), taken yesterday at the scene, the police do not even have guns, only the military, who are a considerably longer distance away. To reach the wall where the young man was killed, they would have needed a sniper. I reserve judgement, but I think this explanation is plausible.

Guest Post: Honduras Has Two Faces

I invited a friend of mine, who attended the pro-democracy demonstrations in Tegucigalpa last Friday, to write a guest post. Here is his account:

Honduras Has Two Faces

The polarity in my country has reached levels that I could not imagine a few weeks back. Manuel Zelaya Rosales has flagrantly lied to the world and has turned the cannons of the OAS towards his brethen.

But not everything is bad. On Friday I assisted one of the multiple peace marches that have occured at Casa Presidencial. When I looked around I was surprised to see parents walking with their children, a grandma on her wheel chair being pushed by her granddaughter and many others with the hope to be heard by a deaf world. I felt proud to hear Dr. Gracia Millares talking to her 14 year old and saying “Today you will have a lesson in civics. You can´t have this in a classroom.” I felt proud to be part of this people. The people who believe in God, family and true democracy

CNN was there but they only showed 5 minutes of our new president addressing the people but other international news companies where there too and my hope is that this truth, can travel the world’s news freeways with the easiness that the preceding lies of Zelaya have. We need to open the eyes of the world to this and not just leave it like another dried tear from the soul of a Latin America, wounded by the spear of the empire of corruption and deceit of Cuba and Venezuela.

Airport Manifestations Cancelled for 48 Hours

In order to protect the public, and prevent more deaths, the Interim Honduran government has cancelled all manifestations at the airport for 48 hours. This is an excellent move, since deaths only benefit Zelaya and Chávez.

Zelaya flew over the airport yesterday in a Venezuelan plane. From the air, he broadcast instructions to his supporters to storm the airport in order to clear the runway, which was being defended by the military anti-crowd unit, and blocked by several emergency vehicles. The crowd obeyed, forcing the military to respond with tear gas, and according to most news sources, gunfire. Still a reporter for the London Times, had the gall to say the attack on the protesters was “unprovoked”!!!

I am still very angry that a supporter of Zelaya was killed, but given the current bias from either side, I’m not convinced anyone is telling the truth. If you look at the place he was shot, in front of a wall (image), it doesn’t make sense that he was shot by soldiers protecting the airport perimeter. It would seem more likely that there was a brawl between supporters of Zelaya and Michelleti. Fatal brawls are not unheard in Honduras even without all the anger and hatred in the air, even for things so “unimportant” as soccer.

CNN en Español is FINALLY giving balanced and informed coverage of the events, after many complaints from viewers. Why they even presented a message from Micheletti, calling for Nicaragua not to try to invade Honduras. Several Honduran news sources have reported that troops are nearing the Nicaragua-Honduras border, a charge Nicaraguan president Daniel Ortega denies, complaining against CNN’s coverage of this. I’m not 100% convinced Micheletti is telling the truth on this, but I give anything Ortega says very little trust at all.

Micheletti is seeking to have talks with the OAS “in good faith”. With an impractical and ridiculous attitude, the OAS has been stubbornly ignoring him so far. I suppose he will offer to move elections as early as possible. That is my hope.
